Pasadena Street Vendors

Overview of Pasadena Street Vendors Association

The Instituto de Educación Popular del Sur de California (IDEPSCA), a non-profit community-based educational organization founded in the City of Pasadena in 1992, began operating the Pasadena Street Vendor Association in early 2008. The street vendors approached IDEPSCA to further develop and provide them the technical assistance to operate their micro businesses based on IDEPSCA’s commitment to the development and implementation of programs aimed at improving self-sufficiency in impoverished communities through literacy classes, computer education, community organizing, workers health and workplace safety and developing economic opportunities.

When IDEPSCA began assisting the vendors there were 7 fully active licensed street vendors; since then the Pasadena Street Vendor Association’s membership has increased, providing economic opportunities to 20 micro-businesses, a total of 40 individuals and their families. The Pasadena Street Vendor Association can incorporate at least 25 micro-businesses, which will improve the livelihoods of many more Pasadena residents.

Currently the Pasadena Street Vendor Association relies on an approved incubator from the Pasadena Health Department as a sanitary facility to prepare their meals for public consumption. The Street Vendor Association will provide the needed assistance to further develop financial skills and obtain the necessary permits and licenses for vendors who live in northwest Pasadena.
